Really Proud

Yesterday was my greatest day, having my son winning his school championship. One again, he made me proud of him, really proud,,,
Bring it on!!, when he got home bringing that trophy with him,,,
After those hard moment waiting a long list of number calling and seeing him so upset on his friends raise up to the stage to get the prize, while his number was not being called yet. Could not imagine how I would make him happy if he never won that championship,,,,could not imagine what come up if he went home with nothing,,,oh GOD,,,I sigh,,,,
Then on a last minute before end,,,,,mentioned a number who got the second winner, really unexpected,,,it was my son's number!!!!,,,,Hooray!!!! I shouted!!! Finally I can see my son on the stage with that trophy raised,,,,Suddenly my sad turn to be happy in a second,,,,
Thanks GOD,,,,for giving me my son's happiness,,,,

A Killer

Cancer is a sudden and hidden killer. It takes no long time to be spread out to the whole organs of the body. It is hidden inside the body so that no one can see it. And it is suddenly take away some one we love in a minute. Felt there is only so little time we got, even we don't have it just to fight it, then we must surrender.

HIGH DOSAGE VITAMIN E STIMULATE LUNG CANCER

Vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins for preventing an aging, but if it is consumed in high dosage it will increase the risk for lung cancer. The benefit of vitamin has already known as an antioxidant for protecting cells from free radical items. But, researchers from USA have indicated that consuming high dosage of vitamin will make pro oxidant that make oxidation and destroying cells. Research conducted in USA by involving 77 thousands participant indicated that consuming vitamin E 400 mg per day in long period can improve a risk for lung cancer up to 28% particularly for smoker.

What is thyroid cancer?

Thyroid cancer is a malignant neoplasm that develops from thyroid cells. In the normal state, new thyroid cells are constantly being produced in a regulated way to replace cells that die off. In the course of this process, certain cells may become abnormal, escaping from cycles of growth. When these abnormal cells continue to multiply and expand in an uncontrolled fashion, they become a tumor or neoplasm ("neo" = new, "plasm" = growth). If a neoplasm grows but remains contained within it without spreading outward to invade normal tissue, it is considered to be benign. If a neoplasm grows and spreads outward to invade normal tissue, it is considered to be malignant, in other words, a cancer.

Causes of Cancer

Cancer is a diverse class of diseases which differ widely in their causes and biology. The common thread in all known cancers is the acquisition of abnormalities in the genetic material of the cancer cell and its progeny. Research into the pathogenesis of cancer can be divided into three broad areas of focus. The first area of research focuses on the agents and events which cause or facilitate genetic changes in cells destined to become cancer. Second, it is important to uncover the precise nature of the genetic damage, and the genes which are affected by it. The third focus is on the consequences of those genetic changes on the biology of the cell, both in generating the defining properties of a cancer cell, and in facilitating additional genetic events, leading to further progression of the cancer.

Chemical carcinogens

Cancer pathogenesis is traceable back to DNA mutations that impact cell growth and metastasis. Substances that cause DNA mutations are known as mutagens, and mutagens that cause cancers are known as carcinogens. Particular substances have been linked to specific types of cancer. Tobacco smoking is associated with lung cancer and bladder cancer. Prolonged exposure to asbestos fibers is associated with mesothelioma.

Many mutagens are also carcinogens, but some carcinogens are not mutagens. Alcohol is an example of a chemical carcinogen that is not a mutagen. Such chemicals are thought to promote cancers through their stimulating effect on the rate of cell mitosis. Faster rates of mitosis leaves less time for repair enzymes to repair damaged DNA during DNA replication, increasing the likelihood of a genetic mistake. A mistake made during mitosis can lead to the daughter cells receiving the wrong number of chromosomes

Decades of research have demonstrated the strong association between tobacco use and cancers of many sites, making it perhaps the most important human carcinogen. Hundreds of epidemiological studies have confirmed this association. Further support comes from the fact that lung cancer death rates in the United States have mirrored smoking patterns, with increases in smoking followed by dramatic increases in lung cancer death rates and, more recently, decreases in smoking followed by decreases in lung cancer death rates in men.

Ionizing radiation

Sources of ionizing radiation, such as radon gas, can cause cancer. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun that lead to melanoma and other skin malignancies.

Radiation from mobile phones has been conjectured for some time as a cause but this theory has not gained mainstream support. Nevertheless some experts caution against prolonged exposure.

Infectious diseases

Some cancers can be caused by infection with pathogens. Many cancers originate from a viral infection; this is especially true in animals such as birds, but also in humans, as viruses are responsible for 15% of human cancers worldwide. The main viruses associated with human cancers are human papillomavirus, hepatitis B and hepatitis C virus, Epstein-Barr virus, and human T-lymphotropic virus. Experimental and epidemiological data imply a causative role for viruses and they appear to be the second most important risk factor for cancer development in humans, exceeded only by tobacco usage. The mode of virally-induced tumors can be divided into two, acutely-transforming or slowly-transforming. In acutely transforming viruses, the virus carries an overactive oncogene called viral-oncogene (v-onc), and the infected cell is transformed as soon as v-onc is expressed. In contrast, in slowly-transforming viruses, the virus genome is inserts near a proto-oncogene in the host genome. The viral promoter or other transcription regulation elements then cause overexpression of that proto-oncogene. This induces uncontrolled cell division. Because the site of insertion is not specific to proto-oncogenes and the chance of insertion near any proto-oncogene is low, slowly-transforming viruses will cause tumors much longer after infection than the acutely-transforming viruses.

Hepatitis viruses, including hepatitis B and hepatitis C, can induce a chronic viral infection that leads to liver cancer in 0.47% of hepatitis B patients per year (especially in Asia, less so in North America), and in 1.4% of hepatitis C carriers per year. Liver cirrhosis, whether from chronic viral hepatitis infection or alcoholism, is associated with the development of liver cancer, and the combination of cirrhosis and viral hepatitis presents the highest risk of liver cancer development. Worldwide, liver cancer is one of the most common, and most deadly, cancers that affected due to a huge burden of viral hepatitis transmission and disease.

Advances in cancer research have made a vaccine designed to prevent cancer available. In 2006, the US FDA approved a human papilloma virus vaccine, called Gardasil. The vaccine protects against four HPV types, which together cause 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts. In March 2007, the US CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) officially recommended that females aged 11-12 receive the vaccine, and indicated that females as young as age 9 and as old as age 26 are also candidates for immunization.

In addition to viruses, researchers have noted a connection between bacteria and certain cancers. The most prominent example is the link between chronic infection of the wall of the stomach with Helicobacter pylori and gastric cancer. Although only a minority of those infected with Helicobacter go on to develop cancer, since this pathogen is quite common it is probably responsible for the majority of these cancers.

Hormonal imbalances

Some hormones can act in a similar manner to non-mutagenic carcinogens in that they may stimulate excessive cell growth. A well-established example is the role of hyperestrogenic states in promoting endometrial cancer.

Immune system dysfunction

HIV is associated with a number of malignancies, including Kaposi’s sarcoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and HPV-associated malignancies such as anal cancer and cervical cancer. AIDS-defining illnesses have long included these diagnoses. The increased incidence of malignancies in HIV patients points to the breakdown of immune surveillance as a possible etiology of cancer. Certain other immune deficiency states (e.g. common variable immunodeficiency and IgA deficiency) are also associated with increased risk of malignancy.

Heredity

Most forms of cancer are “sporadic”, and have no basis in heredity. There are, however, a number of recognized syndromes of cancer with a hereditary component, often a defective tumor suppressor allele. Famous examples are:

  • certain inherited mutations in the genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 are associated with an elevated risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer
  • tumours of various endocrine organs in multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN types 1, 2a, 2b)
  • Li-Fraumeni syndrome (various tumors such as osteosarcoma, breast cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, brain tumors) due to mutations of p53
  • Turcot syndrome (brain tumors and colonic polyposis)
  • Familial adenomatous polyposis an inherited mutation of the APC gene that leads to early onset of colon carcinoma.
  • Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC, also known as Lynch syndrome) can include familial cases of colon cancer, uterine cancer, gastric cancer, and ovarian cancer, without a preponderance of colon polyps.
  • Retinoblastoma, when occurring in young children, is due to a hereditary mutation in the retinoblastoma gene.
  • Down syndrome patients, who have an extra chromosome 21, are known to develop malignancies such as leukemia and testicular cancer, though the reasons for this difference are not well understood.

Other causes

A few types of cancer in non-humans have been found to be caused by the tumor cells themselves. This phenomenon is seen in dogs with Sticker’s sarcoma, also known as canine transmissible venereal tumor, as well as Devil facial tumour disease in Tasmanian devils. The closest known analogue to this in humans is individuals who have developed cancer from transplacental transmission or from organ transplants.

In the United States every year, approximately 3,500 pregnant women have a malignancy, and transplacental transmission of acute leukaemia, lymphoma, melanoma and carcinoma from mother to fetus has been observed.

The development of donor-derived tumors from organ transplants is exceedingly rare. The main cause of organ transplant associated tumors seems to be malignant melanoma that was undetected at the time of organ harvest.

Cervix cancer is a number one disease that kill women in Indonesia

Each year, there are 15 thousands new case and 8 thousands women are die cause of this disease. Many humans die are cause of minimum information about cervix cancer, especially women. In Fact, all women have risk to hit cancer which can attack their main organ.

Women cancer
According research result, cancer cause often attack women (after breast cancer) such as; Ovarium cancer, cervix cancer and uterus cancer. Women reproduction content are 2 ovarium, 2 tuba fallopian, uterus, cervix, and vagina.

Ovarium cancer is part of gynaecology that often happen, cause of women have prosperity increasing therefore they didn’t want to born a child. Recorded 190 thousands case in the world with death number till 115 thousands. cervix cancer is the first level in obstetrics and gynaecology cancer case, but when founded preventive and early ‘skrining’ detection, cervix cancer patient have decrease. Recorded 500 thousands case in the world with death number till 250 thousands.

Uterus cancer is cancer that often happen in endometrial, a place where fetus growing, often happen to women ages 60-70 years old.

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer is the most often cancer happening on women. Even men can be attacked by this cancer too. Based on the data, the youngest patient is 20-29 years old, and the higher number of patient aged 40-49 years old, and the oldest patient is 80-89years old. While destroying the normal cell surround, cancer producing toxin and release the cancer cell to be spread out thru the blood, called metastases phase.

Symptoms
A lump on the breast can be the symptom. Another symptoms are a lump under the arm, disorder blood from the nipple, orange textured skin on the breast and nipple secretion.

Cause Factors
Abnormal cell inside the body come from the preservatives, mono sodium glutamate, radioactive, oxidant, or carcinogenic that produced by the body naturally.

Herbs for Preventing Cancer

Some herbs such as White Turmeric, Catharanthus roseus, Gynura divaricata, & Phyllanthus acidus have been used by cancer patients for curing their cancer. White turmeric is well-known as the anticancer substance. Catharanthus roseus has been tested as the cancer killer with it’s alkaloid inside. Typhonium Flagelliforme/Rodent Tuber is well-known as the herbs to stop cancer cell growth. Morinda citrifolia L is popular as the anticancer substances with dammacanthel inside. Gynura divaricata & Phyllanthus acidus are used as the anticancer as well.

Beware of Cervical Cancer

The most dangerous cancer for women is cervical cancer. In Indonesia, the death number caused by this cancer is very high. Mostly the patient just come to doctor when the cancer is already on the advance stadium. The effects caused by this cancer are very sadly. Specially in term of life hoping, curing possibility, length of suffering, and the high cost. Meanwhile, the exact cause of this cancer can not be identified yet. Some research said it may caused by a virus called Human Papylloma Virus (HPV) that infected thru sexual activities with infected person. From this statement, we know that men can be a high risked potentiality to infect this virus to women and caused the cervical cancer. Some high risked potentiality women to be easily infected are the women that doing the sexual activities in very young age (before 20 years old) , doing sexual activities with more than one man, not doing the hygiene vagina treatment, and doing sexual activities with a man that has been infected by his sexual partner.

Diet for Cancer Survivor

Diet is the most effective way to prevent and cure cancer. Cancer as the degenerative sickness has to be balanced with healthy eating pattern

Some sources said that cancer patient must avoid the food that caused allergy, such as bean sprouts, sawi putih, kangkung, chili, longans, jack fruit, pineapple, grape, durian, duku, ice, alcohol, soft drink, coffee, chocolate, milk, shrimp, oyster, squid, crab, meat, chicken, duck, turkey, well done roasted food, preservatives in food or drink, food color, flavor, and other chemicals.

Suggested foods and drink are spinach, lettuce, broccoli, carrot, potato, tomato, cucumber, papaya, corn, green apple, orange, mango, mushrooms, beans, fish, egg

Check our Breast by ourselves (SARARI)

The number of breast cancer patients is getting higher and higher, and in Indonesia it is posted as the second highest number after cervical cancer. The early detection is needed in preventing this cancer. And in Indonesia, unlike in America or Europe, this early detection is not well socialized yet. In fact this detection is very easy to do at home, once a month for several minutes.

Some steps to do this own detection (SARARI)

1. Looking your breast in the mirror.

See how the symmetric is, the shape & size between left & right breast. How is the nipple, is it

Secretion? How is the color and contour of the skin?

2. Massage

Massage the breast gently.

3. Touching & Feeling

By lay down on the bed, then touch and feel some abnormal lump in the breast

4. Touching the under arm

To detect the abnormal lump surround the breast

Migraine Lessen the Breast Cancer

Migraine is not always giving a bad effect. A research proofed that migraine could lessen a woman risk in getting breast cancer.
Breast cancer is caused by hormone disturbance. Estrogens as hormone that fertilize the breast cancer cell. Estrogens will drop when a woman got migraine. That is why a woman that got migraine has a 30% lower risk than women who never got migraine.
However, getting migraine does not mean you are healthy. Migraine can cause heart attack even stroke. Then, keep yourself health!

Cancer Risk Factor

Doctors often cannot explain why one person develops cancer and another does not. But research shows that certain risk factors increase the chance that a person will develop cancer. These are the most common risk factors for cancer:
*Growing older
*Tobacco
*Sunlight
*Ionizing radiation
*Certain chemicals and other substances
*Some
viruses and bacteria
*Certain hormones
*Family history of cancer
*Alcohol
*Poor diet, lack of physical activity, or being overweight

Many of these risk factors can be avoided. Others, such as family history, cannot be avoided. People can help protect themselves by staying away from known risk factors whenever possible.
If you think you may be at risk for cancer, you should discuss this concern with your doctor. You may want to ask about reducing your risk and about a schedule for checkups.

Over time, several factors may act together to cause normal cells to become cancerous. When thinking about your risk of getting cancer, these are some things to keep in mind:
*Not everything causes cancer.
*Cancer is not caused by an injury, such as a bump or bruise.
*Cancer is not contagious. Although being infected with certain viruses or bacteria may *increase the risk of some types of cancer, no one can "catch" cancer from another person.
*Having one or more risk factors does not mean that you will get cancer. Most people who have risk factors never develop cancer.
*Some people are more sensitive than others to the known risk factors.

The sections below have more detailed information about the most common risk factors for cancer. You also may want to read the NCI booklet
Cancer and the Environment.

What is Cancer?

Defining Cancer

Cancer is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems.
Cancer is not just one disease but many diseases. There are more than 100 different types of cancer. Most cancers are named for the organ or type of cell in which they start - for example, cancer that begins in the colon is called colon cancer; cancer that begins in
basal cells of the skin is called basal cell carcinoma.
Cancer types can be grouped into broader categories. The main categories of cancer include:
Carcinoma - cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs.
Sarcoma - cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue.
Leukemia - cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood.
Lymphoma and myeloma - cancers that begin in the cells of the
immune system.
Central nervous system cancers - cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord.

Origins of Cancer

All cancers begin in cells, the body's basic unit of life. To understand cancer, it's helpful to know what happens when normal cells become cancer cells.
The body is made up of many types of cells. These cells grow and divide in a controlled way to produce more cells as they are needed to keep the body healthy. When cells become old or damaged, they die and are replaced with new cells.
However, sometimes this orderly process goes wrong. The genetic material (
DNA) of a cell can become damaged or changed, producing mutations that affect normal cell growth and division. When this happens, cells do not die when they should and new cells form when the body does not need them. The extra cells may form a mass of tissue called a tumor.
Not all tumors are cancerous; tumors can be benign or malignant.
Benign tumors aren't cancerous. They can often be removed, and, in most cases, they do not come back. Cells in benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body.
Malignant tumors are cancerous. Cells in these tumors can invade nearby tissues and spread to other parts of the body. The spread of cancer from one part of the body to another is called metastasis.
Some cancers do not form tumors. For example, leukemia is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood.

Beware of Cancer

Mesothelioma
is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart).
Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways, such as by washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos, or by home renovation using asbestos cement products. There is no association between mesothelioma and smoking.

Signs and symptoms
Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 20 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. Shortness of breath, cough, and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space are often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma.
Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and cachexia, abdominal swelling and pain due to ascites (a buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity). Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever. If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.
